Discoid lateral meniscus is one of the most common knee problems in clinical practice. Several radiographic findings have been reported to screen discoid lateral meniscus, but the diagnostic value of those signs varies. We introduce a new method of measurement on plain radiograph for initial screenin …

The aims of this study are two-fold: (1) To analyse morphological characteristics by magnetic resonance (MRI), and (2) To correlate the size of the meniscus with

Etiology The MRI findings of the Wrisberg variant encompass those of a discoid lateral meniscus, which include a specific measurement of the left-to-right width of the meniscus at the center of the body greater than 15 mm on a coronal slice (reference average, 12.8 mm) [3, 4]. Alternatively, a discoid lateral meniscus shows more than two meniscal body segments on consecutive sagittal images of the knee. Healthy menisci are shaped like crescent moons (in fact, "meniscus" comes from the Greek word for crescent). A discoid meniscus is thicker than normal, and often oval or disc-shaped. It is more prone to injury than a normally shaped meniscus.

A focal ossification of the A discoid meniscus is suggested when the meniscal body is wider than 15mm or extends into the intercondylar notch. Bilateral discoid medial menisci (BDMM) represent an exceptionally rare congenital pathology of the knee joint that has low reported incidence.

A discoid meniscus is a thick, disk-shaped meniscus which is prone to tearing, degeneration, and loss of stability in the knee. A discoid meniscus most commonly affects the lateral meniscus, rarely the medial meniscus. Here, we present a case of an extremely rare medial and lateral discoid meniscus in the ipsilateral knee of a 10-year-old male.
